    Default Rubber Linisher Wheel

    Hi all,

I'm after a rubber linisher wheel. 100-150 mm dia x 50 wide. Has anyone got one for sale?

Else, where in Oz can I get one? Apart from H&F and Blackwoods.

    Cheers,

    Find yourself a junked treadmill.

The front roller will be rubber coated steel tube about 100 mm in diam with press in aluminium bearing retainers at each end.

Cut the tube to length, press in bearing retainers, bingo - free linisher wheel and shaft.

    Saves buying one.

Phone up some of the industrial abrasive specialists. They usually have them or should know who has.

Multi Tool, the Aussie linisher makers, not the the vibrating saw or the knife, have spares for their unit.
Theirs is 89 x 50 and are on special at the moment at $60 and Hare & Forbes.

I have bought one several years back $40 then .

Failing that, a castor wheel of suitable size and wheel material might fill the bill.
Stick in some h/speed bearings and you are good to go.

Thanks to Grahame, Michael and Rob for replying.

I ended up buying the Hare and Forbes one whilst it was a little cheaper during their sale last week. At $66 it was the cheapest commercial unit I could find. I like the tip that Rob said but no luck in our hard rubbish season yet.

I did manage to find a local manufacturer that others might like to know about:

Zenith Rubber & Abrasive Products: Versatile Engineering: Established 1946

Their unit was $160 and I could not justify the extra compared to the Chinese unit. Sad really.

But the guy there did say he reconditions these and many other similar units and that's handy to know.

Anyway, I can now proceed with my Christmas project and make one like these:

    Hi,

What are the advantages with a rubber coated wheel? The wheels I am used to have either been steel or aluminium.

    Thanks

It's supposed to cushion the belt, make it easier to use whilst grinding as it's a shock absorber, make the belt last longer and allegedly keep the belt cooler......

Nice linisher design, but it needs a flat metal support behind the belt otherwise you can only do curvy stuff on it.

Most of the time I use mine for deburring/breaking edges, facing, and flat or straight edge jobs, so it's important to have a perfectly flat belt section. You can always do the curvy stuff on the back.

Having it vertical makes this possible and is the way to go IMHO

My linisher only has aluminium wheels, no rubber, and no problem with slippage etc. Same as the ones in the CNC cookbook.

    Cheers

Maybe the rubber wheel is why everyone likes the 'Multitool'

Rotary Tools in Thomastown recently got me a 100 x 100mm rubber contact wheel from Linishal Australia. I ordered it one day and picked it up the next day.

I had a severely damaged rubber one, so I cut all the rubber off and turned up a wooden wheel and epoxied the metal hub
with its bearings into it. Has worked quite well for a few years now.
Won't provide the cushioning you're after 'tho.
