    Default rust

    Gdat
All: need some help and advise,I have some freckles of rust appearing and a
    down drain
    pipe. It is a
    color bond
rectangle and I painted over the CB some time ago when I did the whole house. I purchased
    wattyl
    killrust
and read that it is for steel wrought iron
    and
other ferrous metals,I called there service number and was told it was only good for the above.Checked with the hardware store and they say they sell it to plumbers etc and no one has complained or remarked .Has anyone had
    experience
    with this KR on
    color bond
    downdraing
or for that matter on any tin or aluminium products???I thought rust was rust and this is suppose to convert rust to a
    useful
    metallic
    surface Any
    help will be greatly
    appreciated
    and thanks in advance.

Once rust starts on the inside of a metal downpipe it is very hard to stop it.
Expensive paints can cost as much as a new downpipe.
I would replace the downpipe with plastic and then paint it with wattle solar guard .
I have replaced all downpipes on my old house with cheap round stormwater pipe and fittings . Then painted with solar guard . They are still fine after 12 years near the ocean and I have just repainted house with solar guard.

Gday retromilling, thanks for you help, I guess the rust is all the way through, have to way of checking inside. Guess will have to replace same. they are over twenty years old and I am right on the coast. Funny that it is only two pipes both on the south side and one is facing the ocean and the other is at the back of the house. Many thanks for you advise.billym

My pleasure mate. I went for a trip last year down to Eden and back .
I must say that I like the south coast a real lot.
It reminds me of the Australia of my youth and a quiter and nicer time.

Gday retromilling: yes it is lovely but down this way. but unfortunately it is being found,Right up to Batesman bay seems to be bought out. Few years ago when Heinz tune factory closed you could have bought half the town for a hundred bucks but now back on top .Eden is a lovely spot.Only four or five fishing boats moored on the wharf now, used to be 25/30 tied up side by side and looked great.with lots of national parks around here it may remain green and not to crowded, guess it will depend on planning minister, lets hope with Sator gone sanity will prevail.G Luck billm
