This stuff is AWSOME !!!!!!!! You can use it straight or dilute it.
All you do is pour the appropriate amount into a plastic container and pop in your rusty part. Almost instantly you will see bubbles forming and hear them, kind of like soft drink fizzing. Depending on the severity of the rust, eg. Light surface rust remove after 10 or 15 min wash in warm water and the rust is complearly gone. Just oil to prevent re infection.

I'm almost certain your talking about rust buster which is just phosphoric acid... Also called deoxidine I believe. This stuff can be diluted with water and rubbed on the part with a rag to remove the rust. Then wipe off with another rag to remove the excess once done... or rinse with water or use a damp rag if its not dilute as it tends to be a bit sticky in that case. It takes a a few minutes to work its magis depending on the amount of rust but leaves it a nice grey color with a light dusty phosphate coat. On deeper rust it tends to just change its colour but will eventually remove it if youre persistant.

This is what panel beaters do on bare metal right before priming. I used some on my lathe to remove some light rust and stains on the bed and it worked well.

    Default acid

    Hi

Those acid treatments will still leave the pit marks behind . The base metal has been eaten by the rust, maybe only half a thou deep. The problem is , the rust is patchy , with a mottled looking appearance . I think the only way to make the ways mint , is by grinding or scraping until you get down , and through the pit marks
