    Default A sad sight

    I spotted this milling machine sitting completely exposed to the elements.

    It is an Argo brand. I figured that the shed had been destroyed by cyclone Marcia in February.

    I managed to contact the owner and I inquired if he had any interest in selling it. He said his intention was to relocate it and the other equipment (lathe etc) to an alternate site due to the cyclone damage.

    When I suggested he cover up the machinery, he shrugged his shoulders and said he simply didn't have the time.

    Sadly I suspect in 6 months or a year it will still be slowly rusting away.

    Unfortunately, there is that much beautiful equipment around, all in a similar condition, people just don't care. There are some large presses in a scrap yard here, same thing. It would take him about 10 minutes to cover it up. A few years down the track it will be that rusty, even RCs new toy, won't be able to fix it.

    Would not surprise me if the owner got insurance for it and does not care any more... The mill looks quite well tooled, with the horizontal support and all, it would not surprise me to see a right angle attachment there somewhere..


    The lathe looks to be an industrial type machine, going by the unequal angle of the bed V... Le Blond, Sheraton and Mazak all used bed angles like that...

    You can be sure the whole lot will be scrapped eventually.. The country type looks a bit like marmor area...

    I was just disappointed at the waste. If you haven't bothered to cover a machine after 3 months you probably never will.

    I didn't have a close look at the lathe. It was private property and I hadn't located the owner at that time.

    You do know you country don't you.

    I can even tell you the manufacturer of the concrete tank in the background..

    The major problem with the mill now is water ingress into the head.. Nothing stopping all the rain going straight through into the spindle, rusting it all up...

    Must be the dread of getting up at 2:10am to give a mate a lift to the airport lol

    I saw the powerfeeds but figured they were toast. Missed the riser block

    In another 6 months I'll give him $200 for the table and the raiser block. now that would be a silver lining!(at least of me)
