Bob...
First: Those photographs are beautiful. Can you share some pointers?
Second...is there a provision on the quill for lubrication? The Deckel head does not have an obvious oiling point for the quill unless there's an internal oil flow from the drive gears I'm missing. Deckel did not provide a handle for the quill, instead provide a bent wrench for that job.
I managed to find a high speed head for a reasonable price on Germbay last week, and a nifty Walter rotab too, so suddenly I need to make a cabinet to hold all these attachments.

Trade Secrets
It's easy Gregory.
A clean white melamine desktop under a north facing window on an overcast day.
A battered 6 megapixel Nikon Coolpix on a tripod, using macro and most importantly, the self timer. Simple. I was surprised at how well they turned out.
With the drilling attachment, the only lubrication required is to enable the quill to slide up and down inside the rotating spindle of the vertical head.
I am interested to know how much you get clipped for shipping the table and the head.
A 10 inch Schaublin rotary table sold on ebay last week for $637 US . I imagine with shipping you'd be up around the $1000 AU mark. It's a shame USPS no longer offers surface mail.
The VFD arrived and I fired the mill up last Friday. Everything works. The joystick control for the power feed is fantastic. The machine makes a fair amount of gear noise when running in direct drive and very little noise when in low gear. The standard vertical head is noisy whilst the high speed head is very quiet. I love the 6300 rpm.
I have to be realistic. The mill is 48 years old and has worked for a living. Things wear and with wear comes noise. Phillip said his 13 makes noise, the amount is subjective. I listened to a FP-1 on Youtube and it sounded like a chaffcutter.
Now that you know how it's done, how about some more FP-1 snapshots.
Regards Bob.

Bob...the rotab is going to be about $300 shipping (UPS quoted 770 US). Selling price was great for a German item, still less than a Vertex at the end of the day.
It is coming from Rochester, NY. via a car importer.
The Deckel piece is going free to friends mum's house near Frankfurt then coming back as luggage, so score there too. I paid 301 Euro which surprised me as they usually sell for twice that or more.
Pictures will come, but it will be awhile...still have to do a good survey before I take it apart. Still have to decide on a colour--leaning towards very light silver-grey

Hi,
I am aware that this is an old thread, but just letting anyone interested know that I have a Schaublin 13 in pretty good order (not for sale) with some literature which I am willing to copy should anyone require it. I am seeking a source of P20 collets (have one only) if anyone can help.
Kind regards - Geoff

Hello Geoff, welcome to the forum.
I have a 13 as well but no P20 collets, they are very rare as you have probably found out. Are you aware that there were available collets which fitted directly into the ISO 30 taper? I have two of these, 18mm and 7/16" dia., they were imported by Demco. Mick Moyle at Summer Hill had one the last time I was there(about 2 years ago).
What vintage is your machine and what other bits etc. do you have? Bob (Anorak Bob)and I have exchanged bits and info to both our advantages.
Regards, Phillip, (Metalman).

Hello Geoff,
My mill came with a set of imperial P20 collets, 1/8" - 9/16" in 1/16" increments. I have a saved search on Ebay for P20s and have found nothing in the two years I've had the mill. You may have better fortune looking for ISO30 collets, they are available occassionally and you don't have to turn the vertical head upside down to use them.
And sometimes you get lucky... I participate on a couple of Swiss machine forums. Just the other day, an Aciera owner said he had a number of shockingly ugly SK (ISO) 30 collets that he was willing to post to Australia if I was willing to pay for the postage. I told him that they were that ugly that I would need to hide them away and only use them when no one was looking. He called them Frankencollets. They are on their way from Holland. As one of my work collegues said when she saw a photo, if they are useless for their intended purpose I could use them as orange juicers.

Hello to Phillip and Bob,
Well may I say as my first ever post ever to any site ever, and as to how impressed I am with both the speed and friendliness of these replies. Likewise I have had a search listed on various eBay listings for a couple of years with only one set coming up which I missed. Hadn't considered the ISO 30 option which I will peruse. Will revert with details of my machine over the weekend.

G'day Geoff
Welcome to the forum. The rest of us are just as friendly (but haven't got Schaublins).

Hey Geoff,
It hadn't registered last night, ES2 . You wouldn't be a Norton aficionardo by any chance?
Back to collets. There is a Dutch seller who has a selection of 30 taper collets. Dealing with the seller could prove challenging. He informed me, via a Dutch woman I work with, that he is not interested in organising shipping. You would have to sort that out yourself.
This seller has some exquisite stuff, worth visting even if it's only for window shopping.

Bob! Great news about the ISO 30 collets. That should do a lot to cure some of your headroom woes.

Only some Gregory,
The largest Frankencollet is 12mm, the largest offered by Schaublin was 16mm. Any way I look at it I'm short of the 20mm required for the Haimer shank. Charles Stroom, the former owner of the collets has a Haimer with a 12mm arbor. I asked him about it. He said it is a smaller model though the one featured on the Haimer site has a 10mm arbor? Haimer GmbH - Zero Master Analog
I need to chase down a small maybe keyless Rohm chuck to replace the 0-1/4" Rohm I have a present. I used mine on the weekend in the 13 and I reckon the chuck on one of my 1920's eggbeater hand drills would have displayed less runout. I need to find something with a 12mm arbor. US Ebay may not be the place.

Hi Bob,
Re the ES2 reference, yes I have been building race ES2 Nortons for the past 35+ years hence the Schaublin mill (and ever expanding workshop). A Steelfast filing machine has been the most recent purchase.

Schaublin 13
Phillip,
My Schaublin 13 was built in 1954, build number 161. I have one 3/8" P20 collet, an ISO 30 to MT3 adapter, ISO 30 shank drill chuck, and an ISO 30 collet chuck with some collets. I have acquired a the original "Instructions Regarding The Electric Equipment", the Service Instructions 1978 (copy), Servicing and Operating Instructions (earlier copy undated), and an original 28 page catalogue which includes the accessories. I do like information. The sad thing is that I suspect that this machine may have been ex Govt, and that the spares and accesories were sold off in another cabinet. Regards Geoff

Hello Geoff,
I scanned my manual. Some of the exploded parts diagrams are dated May 1959. It could be the same as yours. If you think that it may not be, I can send it to you in a number of emails. It has been broken down into files about 2.4mb in size.
Let me know if it would be of any use to you.
What is the date of your catalogue?
Bob.
