Hello there,
I'm still keen to do the scraping class. I can definitely do the two weekends in October mentioned, (4th and 11th). I am pretty flexible for other dates as well. Pencil me in for whatever you come up with and I should be OK.
Regards
Mark

Good work on that spread sheet Scott. That's going to make it easier to visualize what weekends will work.
You could put Pete F down across the board as available. I live in eternal hope he will make it down one day. But with his work schedules, he wont know until the last minute.
I noticed this morning when checking this thread there was one member (Me), and three guests reading it. Of course we would love you to sign up and become a member. But in the mean time, if you were interested, you can contact me. machtool at bigpond dot net dot au

Yep. Happy to help out if needed with cooking, cleaning & first aid. Any excuse to meet a few people and be a hand scraping groupie! Some of those dates being thrown around will not suite due to work committments but once the final dates are set down, I can let you know what days I can make it. I hope I can make the diner as well.
Cheers,
SimonGirl, I don't wanna know about your mild-mannered alter ego or anything like that." I mean, you tell me you're, uh, super-mega-ultra-lightning babe? That's all right with me. I'm good. I'm good.

Im guessing youre the "C 46 / Alan E" on the spreadsheet / Phil's list. Ill correct the name and add the dates, thanks!
Excellent, Ill start a new column for non-students who are attending, steamwhisperer phil mentioned he might tag along too. That way we can be clear for bookings / food and the like. Itll be great to put some names to faces!

You might have thought I'd missed that. Its like that song, "many rivers to cross" Jimmy Barnes does a great version. But I do things in order. Right now we have to settle on a date/dates. I'd like to think we can come up with that by weeks end. Friday arvo 5.00 pm.
Once that's settled, I'll secure the cast iron bar. The size we use, there's 5 length's in the country. I need at least 2 of them. It $500 bucks per 1890mm lenght. At that time we request a deposit to off set that, that secures a place.
Then we have a little question and answer session. Who has a scaper/ who doesn't etc, so I know how many hand tools I need to find. That's part of the class, working out what the best scraper is for you. It would be pointless to recommend a 28" long scraper, to find out your built like a jockey, and would be tripping over it all day.
We aim to lay all the styles on Sandvik, Anderson, Shop made, to find what works. In a week or two, once we get the basics going. I might even start a thread about making your own. Ray & Bruce all ready have some pictures up for the other classes, on how to make you own. Sandviks come in 3 sizes, I have all of them here to try. The middle one 620-25, I checked today. My buy price is $120 +. I can order some more, and sell them off at that. I'll probably knock up a few of the ones I use, then there's pull scrapers to try.
Power scrapers we have in abundance. And not only Biax, you get to try Renz also.
Carbide is the go-to. I could tell you to buy this. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/SANDVIK-C.../251527753788?
Only problem with that is Sandvik tips are useless straight out of the box. They have a 300mm radius. Perfect for scraping gaskets and paint. Useless for an intro to machine scraping. We will be working with 90 & 60mm radius's. If a dozen blokes turned up here, and we needed to re-work those into something usefull, it would be lunch time before we made a scratch. I've taken the liberty of ordering 20 new Sandvik tips, and R.C is going to rework a couple of sides to the correct shape. Leaving you a couple of sides to play with as the diamond grinder is free.
I've also ordered some micrograin K20 carbide. I'll diamond grind those, then send them out to be wire EDM'ed with 2 x 60 & 2 x 90mm radius's, with safety corners. So they are ready to go, and you can be head down, Arxx up by 8.00 am. I should be able to pull off either of those option for what that Ebay guy wanted. Around $45 per tip. There $60 bucks if you wanted to buy one from Sandvik. Part number is 620-2525 H10 if you wanted to check.
In summary, lets lock away the dates. Then we have 3 months to prepare.
Regards Phil.

I can do every date but the 4th and 5th of October, thats the October long weekend have to work at the money making job. I know I said I could do that weekend but I didn't realise it was the long weekend.
Also I would prefer one of the early dates if possible.

You just have to love this country. I had to look up October public holiday. Its labour day in NSW. We've all ready had it. March 10th. So its no public holiday down here. Between that and school holidays,
I'm sure I've pulled this one off before. If your down here for "training", cant you submit a time sheet and still hammer them for the over time.
We can start calling it a seminar, rather than class if that helps. I've isssued invoices for tax / employer before.
