The Search for a Shaper Vise
Everyone who has a shaper, but no vise will appreciate the burning need to acquire a "proper" shaper vise...
Well, after 3 days on the road, 20 hours driving, with some pleasant stops on the way ( Thanks LamestLama, Harty, Jayson and Joe for your kind indulgence )
Here is not one but two... I'm willing to part with one, I'm just not sure which one yet...
The standard VB size reference is included for scaling purposes...
I'll get some better pictures later...
Life is good!
Regards
Ray
PS Special thanks to Harty, for finding not one but actually both of them as it turned out..
PPS LamestLama, did you get that surface table yet? ...

Ray, sorry I meant to invite you to drop in but I got distracted. I have a short attention span. So you have one shaper and two vices. I think that makes you an evil genius. Would be interested to learn more about the big one. I don't want it; I just haven't seen one like it before. I think you'll find the smaller one a good fit for your machine.

Hi,
The large one is very similar to the one in the video i posted in my new shaper thread. I guess its 12 or 14"?

Thanks Bryan, I appreciate the thought, and also the offer to help with the collection . Next time...
Uh... no, that makes me one shaper short...
Thanks Dave, I think you'd need to come for a visit.. freight would be a killer..
Stuart, I'd reckon it's around the 100Kg + feels like 200
Ewan, ok, here's the funny thing, the "smaller one" if you could call it that.. is 9 1/4, the big one is 9 3/4, across the jaws, so the bigger one is deeper and higher but not that much wider.. ?

Ray, search for shaper vise on us eBay. There are several like yours, all of which are more expensive than what most of us have paid for our shapers.

It was great to see you again, Ray.
Very many thanks for the faceplates and steady Ray!
I have trial fitted the faceplate and the driver plate to the spindle. All it took was drilling countersinks in the mounting holes. Perfect fit!
The steady will work out great too.
Cheers,
Joe

Hi Joe,
No problem, I was surprised that it fitted... that will save you having to make a faceplate.
Back to the Shaper Vise...
I think I'll be going with the "smaller" vise for a start, it seems a good fit for the Varnamo, and the T-Slots line up pretty close.
It opens up to just over 10" (260mm) and the jaws are 9 1/4" (235mm)
A bit of surface grinding and clean up to come..
Regards
Ray
