So, a Servian drill press recently followed me home. It will be a restoration job. Not that I don't already own a serviceable (Taiwanese) pedestal drill and not that I don't already have too many projects on the to do list but the current drill doesn't have any soul. Moreover, the ubiquitous Taiwanese drill possesses some annoying run out and I find changing speeds via the belt system fiddly and annoying, so the tendency is to leave it on the slowest speed for everything. The current motor is single phase and that would mean sourcing and adapting a 3 Phase motor if I wanted the speed control of a VFD system.

The Servian comes with what I'm almost certain is the original 3 phase electric motor. My shed has a 32A single phase outlet but no 3 phase. Whilst some may consider it sacrilege, my preference would be to power via a VFD and enjoy more flexible speed control. Which said, takes us to the motor, specifically whether it is a star or delta configuration in its original form. The motor plate is somewhat deteriorated and some knucklehead has partly painted over the motor plate, in fact the entire machine, in at least to my eyes an ugly out-of-place blue .

Anyway, a search indicates a few members have restored similar Servian drill presses, including VFD connection but I have been unable to find anything relating to motor wiring, either star or delta. Does anyone know whether the original 3 phase motors were Star or Delta connection ?

Cheers
