Nice one , looks like it has automatic downfeed and all... I seem to remember Bryan's had that as well, maybe it's standard with TOS.
I'm looking forward to seeing what's underneath all that dirt and grime..
Regards

Well done .
It must be "that" time of the year, it seems to be raining shapers at the moment. With that Douglas going for 1K i guess everyone is thinking its time to sell......
Cheers

Alf Scotting - Advice needed
Sorry guys, don't know how to post new post so am replying to steam whisperer in the hope I will get some feed back.
I purchased my Douglas for $200 and am very happy with it -it is 3 ph. running off a phase change converter.it has a tooth missing on the table cross feed which I must attend too soon .
My question is how does one set the table support so the top guide face is horizontal when in contact with the table (It has the twin arm support as shown on the spare parts list) securing bolts are a clearance fit in the slots allowing the support to tilt -am I missing something? cant find the post on dating it but No.s on R.H. side of ram are R/167/1491.
I also have a problem with the ram "creeping" when it's supposed to be stopped - how to fix? Can't believe there are so many shaper "nuts" out there -any near Taree N.S.W?

Hi Alf,
firstly, to reply just go to the last post in the thread and under the last post it says 'Reply to thread'. Just click on that and it will bring up an empty box to write in.
Secondly and it probably should have been firstly, Welcome to the forum and the psycho world of 'shaper owners'
As lazy as I am I have a stick with info about all things shapers that went around and am supposed to re-send it. I think it might be time to get my act together. You could go on the mailing list if you like. https://www.woodworkforums.com/f65/br...-stick-150286/
I can't help with the front support as I made my own and I don't have a clutch on mine so can't help there either.

Hi Alf
I'm in Kew/Laurieton I have a 22" Klopp shaper I'm about to move into my new shed.
Never own or used a Douglas shaper but I'd be happy to catch up with you on the "two heads are better than one principal" Although I'm sure you will get the help you need from the Douglas owners here.

Hi Don, Sorry I haven't been able to find any hand books etc yet. I believe my Klopp shaper came out of the Qld Tafe system? passing through several hands before I acquired it, none of whom I think used it! It is presently in a mates shed, here is a link to PM Klopp shaper Where he (we) tried get some technical info, none eventuated. I am awaiting power to be connected to my newly completed shed. So soon along with other machines it will take up residence and hopefully it will again producing chips.

The Old Klopp
Thanks for the quick reply Graeme.
I've had a look at most stuff that has come up on Google, and have built up a fair bit of info that resides in the back of my head.
I've collected a few bits of gear that I've yet to come up with much info on, but those that have been put into service have turned out to be
good bits of gear.
After nearly 18 months of occasionally attacking an ARAD lathe, built in Romania of all places, I just started using it last week.
It still needs refinements but its already turned out to be built like the old proverbial Brick #######.
I had a few regrets initially but now I'm getting along with it just fine
Reading up on the Klopp's, I've heard nothing but positives, so even if I never get any info I'm still onto a winner.
Cheers Don

Hello Alf,
Mine has the single post, but with the twin posts I imagine you could do it by setting the height at each end of the table travel, cranking the table across a few times to fine tune. Might be tedious. Or you could adjust the mounting bolts on the machine base so the top of the cross travel rail is level, then use a spirit level to set the top of the table support horizontal.
Re the ram creeping issue, I would be checking the clutch adjustment. The adjustment is changed by the setting of the screw on the clutch toggle* under the clutch cover on the large clutch pulley*.
*terms as per Douglas parts list
Cheers,
Bill

Good morning, the table travel support is easy to adjust.loosen 2 bolts centralise the table bring up the support nip the bolts squirt of oil on the slide traverse the table to either end of the lateral travel you want then tighten the two bolts and ''make chips''.
There is another way too again loosen bolts 2 and bring up bracket to the round peg wind table to one side put a .002 feeler gauge between bracket and round table projection tighten that bolt on that side bring the table over and do the same on that side. Centralise and check with gauge in middle.A lot of mucking around i prefer the first method as you just watch the oil puddle being pushed along.
The clutch creep is an adjustment issue as mentioned Cheers John.

douglas shaper age
Hi does anyone know how to judge the age of a douglas shaper when there is no serial no.
are there any parts or shape that may indicate a period of production, it has plain bearings and no clutch with a double leg front support
Leroy.
