    Default Tell Tale Paper

As soon as the cutter grabs the slip of paper I know I am within .0015". Actually I haven't measured them for a while....anyways, it would pay to buy some cigarette papers, they come in handy.

I just remembered after reading Phils explanation, I have some 1/2 thou paper, I use for this type of work.
If you send me your mailing address I can post some to you.

Getting a block square is much harder then I first thought I did the fixed jaw today and it is all croked so it's meant to be 60 mm and one side is 60 .3 and the other is 59.9 the base that I filed is parallel it measure about the same on each corner. I brought my dial indiccator to school today the shaper vice is out exactly 1 mm on. Y axis and I have to turn the vice around to see if the table is out

I thought that might be your problem, with the swivel table you can adjust it, and if it's out front to back just shim the vise, as I don't think the teacher will want you machining the table.

Does the teacher have any idea about machining? I would have thought if he did he would jump in with you to get the machine set up properly. Your lucky to still have a shaper as most schools have sold them.

When I was at school the teachers used to let us go down to the wood/metal work rooms to work on our jobs as long as we didn't muck around. There where a few of use who where serious and went down there all the time to save being board sitting in the play ground.

Come to think of it, they did have a play ground with things like an arch made of pipe you could climb and a few other things like that in one section.
Most of them hung around the basket ball courts, which I wasn't into either.

Andre can you explain what you mean by its parallel it measures about the same each corner.
Unless I missed something parallel will measure the same at the corners.

I realise parallel is the same measurement but there is a 0.02 mm difference between each end but that's parallel enough for me.

    Hi Andre,
    Sounds good, any pics?
It would be great if you could get the slides ground.

Today I milled out and filed the fixed jaw the filing is pretty shocking but the fit is nice and tight.

    Andre,

Does it need to be ground? Would fly cutting suffice? My Douglas vice is fly cut.
