    Default Good Scraper

    Hi
How old is the shaper.?From memory I used one the same as that about 40 odd years ago during my aprentiship days.It was a great machine.I still have a couple of things I made using it.A small surface plate and a 1 1/2" vice that clamps on to the bench(hobby vice)I surpose you would call it. OH I also made stuff for work on it as well.LOL

Dunno how old it is, probably 50's or 60's..It is pretty much identical to the Invicta shapers...Elliott bought out both Alba and Invicta and just put their own name on their products..

Those were the days you could read your daily newspaper (when the boss wasn't around) or be working on another machine making parts for something at home. They were very good for certain tasks i.e. doing internal key ways. I still have some large toolmaker clamps that I made during my apprenticeship that have serrated gripping areas on them via a shaping machine.

As with the other guys, that machine brings back memories of my apprentice days.. Still have a scar on my right foot when one of those massive HOT shavings went down my boot.

Great vid , shapers are a great machine to use ,I love watching the metal peel off.
We had an Invicta in the apprentice training section .One bright spark decided he would do a rodeo ride on it while the training supervisor was in the crapper.

Needles to say the first run was a bit slow for him ,so he cranked it up to a higher speed ,and used his foot to engage the clutch lever .He didn't last the eight seconds ,and almost left his manhood on the tool post.
Badly bruised and walking bow legged for quite a few days.

The training supervisor was not impressed.
