    Default Sheet metal Roller bearings

I'm considering having a crack at making a short set of sheet metal rollers and seeking suggestions for bearings. The rollers will only be used for occasional use so was thinking that bronze bearings might suffice.
Has anyone done this or any suggestions, ideas etc?
    Thanks

Back when kingpins were common in car front suspensions they nearly all turned in bronze bushes which were good for 50,000 miles or so. That said, ball/roller bearings may be a cheaper option depending on if you can buy the right size bush or if you have to turn it from solid/hollow bar.

    Hi Bob,
I would look at bronze or oilite. My local has metric sized oilite bearings on the shelf, cheaper than a 62xx series bearing. An ebay search for oilite bush will find you heaps of options out of the UK

For a low speed and medium to high pressure bronze bearings are fine.Commercial sheetmetal rolls I have known seemed to do ok with them.

You do know the rollers are larger at the middle than the outside edges .By how much I can't remember.

    Hello Bob,

    You said short rollers.

If around 12" fits this description then you might consider George Thomas' design.

Thanks Findlay, much appreciated, The stock I have in mind for rollers is ~450 mm long and 40 mm in diameter so that design could work well.

Thanks Grahame. Yes I know that, the ones at work are like that but I believe the longer they are the more important this but it is less critical for short fat rollers.

When I first read the heading to this thread I read it as
Sheet Metal Roller Bearings and I thought this will be interesting
until I realised it was about bearings for a sheet metal roller.
Its still interesting, but in a different way.

Yes, on looking at it again the need for a comma is now obvious
"Sheet Metal Roller, Bearings", or "Bearings for a sheet metal roller"
