Fabrication Help.
Hello all,
I'm trying to find someone who can fabricate brackets for a Danish type sofa bed. I have a pair of brackets and they don't look too difficult to copy, for someone who knows what they are doing.
I'm at Avoca Beach, NSW Central Coast.
I've searched the net for reproductions but cannot find any. If anyone knows of such a site that would also be helpful.
Cheers.
Nick

Hello Nick,
If you haven't already looked at Hafele's online catalogue, here is a link. Photos of what you are trying to replicate would aid those of us who aren't sure what a Danish style sofa bed bracket looks like.

Thanks Bob,
I'm familiar with Haefele, they have mostly new style fittings etc.
Attached is a sofa style I was refering to.
I haven't pulled brackets of current on yet, will do soon.
If you are not familiar with style I mention, then you probably won't know of any suppliers.
I'll take brackets to a local metal fabricator and see what they say.
cheers,
Nick

Hi Nick,
Now I know what you are after. We used to have a teak Danish look a like sofa bed similar to yours. Bought it from Good Sammys. Shocking fabric on the thing but you could sleep on it. I can sort of remember the mechanism that allowed the sofa to butterfly open. How about a trawl of the second hand shops. Buy a beater and remove the mechanisms.
My daughter works part time at a place called My Gandfather's Axe in Melbourne. They import and sell Scandinavian, mainly Danish, mid century furniture. They might some idea as to where sofa bed fittings might be sourced. I will ask the question.
It is amazing how popular the locally made copies of furniture designed by the likes of Finn Juhl and Hans Wegner, amongst others, were. Clean and simple stuff.

Thanks Bob,
Very simple lines and functional.
We love it at our house.
I found an original sofa bed thrown out on side of road the other day, 3.5 seater!!
