Default Used shipito for the first time US to Australia

And it all worked out well. My main reason for using shipito was that their freight rates were better than the rates I was getting from the airfreight companies. Presumably this is all to do with the fact that JoeBlow gets quoted full retail for his small job, whereas shipito move a lot of stuff and have negotiating power. My supplier is cool and will despatch to me directly if I want (doesn't have a fit of the vapours about foreign sales) but all in all shipito was the cheapest way I could find to get the goods here.

My yardstick for US/Oz airfreight is the US$3 or so per pound that USPS charge for their 20 lb flat rate boxes, which I reckon is a good rate. This was a 30lb parcel and it cost me a smidgin over US$4 per pound delivered to my door. TNT was the freight company and transit time was 6 days.

That's good info Bob, thanks for posting. If anyone is thinking about an overseas purchase, now is a good time, as it seems likely that we will have GST and goodness knows what other fees on top to pay soon (for all transactions above about $30) if the State Treasurers and Uncle Joe have their way.

FWIW I've just been through my first Shipito transhipment too. It was for an item that Amazon wouldn't post to outside the US - a pair of high-tech ski touring gloves not available in Oz.

It qualified for free Amazon postage to Shipito in Nevada - so no internal sales tax or post costs. It all went off without a hitch but TNT freight cost a bundle as it was based on volumetric assessment (weight plus volume) and Amazon had shipped to them in a large envelope. It was 2.5" x 18" x 18" and only half a kilo. Added up to USD 42.

Clearly the solution is to buy more and go for a virtual mailbox account @ USD 50 a year for consolidation of items.
    Cheers, Ern

Virtual mailbox can be as little as 8 to 11 dollars per kg. Buying the stuff to combine can get out of hand. Damhikt

I have used shipito a few times. First use was to get an Interapid DTI from Amazon. My latest use was to get a Phase II tool post set from Use-Enco. They stock these "quality" Chinese QCTP but do not ship international. I had to use Shipito to get it here. For those that are interested always pick TNT as the freight option. It was the cheapest option AND delivered at my door from California in under 4 full days! Insanely quick. Posted Monday, here on Thursday morning. In-fact it beat an item I had mailed from WA .

Oh, and don't ship to CA, as they add sales tax. I should have shipped to Nevada as mentioned above!

    Definatley can vouch for shipito.

I've been using them for years and have had an obscene amount of products shipped here.
I normally always use them, even when the supplier ships to aus, as most items shipped inside the US is free, and then I shipito to me.
I have upgraded to a virtual mailbox as I save quite a lot when combining items. Also, when combining, go for the unpackage option, as it does save alot of space (that is if you dont want the packaging)

I've also left things in the mailbox for a month or two while i accumulate items, and they have always been great.

If you purchase firearm parts, they may not deliver some items. They change their regulations a while ago and refuse to ship firearm parts like Scopes (even though they are telescopic) and butt stocks etc.

    Cheers

    yep..they need an export licence,

and Brownells for instance protect some manufacturers agents here in aus by not shipping using the lie that they are not allowed ship those goods to by law???

I get scopes from the scope shop

    http://www.theriflescopestore.com/shtoau.html

its on Bold lettering on their site...we ship to australia...yet Brownells and others will tell you they cant do it because of the law????

Default Timely - trying to avoid eBay Global Shipping Program

As the title says - eBay is doing their best to kill the goose IMO.

I'm after some sheet winches for my boat at the moment. Much cheaper in the USA than here plus a lot more available. However dealing with the shipping is becoming a nightmare.

The seller is supposed to ship/drop off at a Pitney Bowes depot. Some don't know this and get upset when they get $13 odd for postage instead of the $75 or so they were expecting - then you look at your PayPal and see the 3 different charges and back & forth it goes. What a PITA.

Not to mention that the freight/postage price listed on the summary page NEVER matches the price shown on the details page - it's always substantially higher.

So I'm starting to look at alternatives.
