Firstly you would have to make sure that you have eliminated virtually all slop in the tailstock quill (movement under torque).

Once you have achieved that a block of suitable material bore and slotted to suit the OD of the tailstock quill with suitable screw for locking in place and then drill and tap 1 or 2 suitable holes in it that match similar clearance holes in the body of the vernier, screw suitables screw or screws into the pre drilled and taped holes.

You will lose a little travel on the quill due to the bracket attaching the vernier scale.

This is the only thing so far that's missing on the Sieg C6 and that's there is no graduation markings on the quill and for drilling, it's a bit of a pain.

I cut down an old unused digital calipers with a cut off wheel on a Dremel and got rid of all the parts that weren't needed. Took a deep breath when I cut through the main part, because I wasn't sure whether I was going to ruin how the 'magic' happens, but happily found out that cutting through the electronic tape stuck on the caliper doesn't stuff it up!

It's just sitting there at the moment with a drop of hot melt glue. I won't have a problem attaching the main bit to the tail stock, but does anyone have any ideas on how to attach it to the quill?

This is how I did mine, might give you some ideas

    Thanks for the feedback everyone.

Fred thanks for the link. I thought I was doing something unique and after doing a Google search after seeing your thread........nothing could be further from the truth!!!

Tell you what though, drilling that hardened stainless steel of the caliper is something I never want to do again

A ball shaped diamond bur in a Dremel or pencil air die grinder would have gone through that like the proverbial hot knife.

The worst that can happen is you will fail.
    But at least you tried.

I didn't consider this. Just had a look and there doesn't 'seem' to be any, but I suppose it wouldn't take much to lock things up?

That's why I used the model helicopter link, works like a charm.

Can't take the credit for that idea, got it from another tailstock DRO thread on another forum.

One day Rob will find a job that can't be done with a micro die grinder. On that day the sun will rise in the west, the sea's will rise and the mountains will topple.......

I was expecting a comment when I mentioned polishing the telescopic gauges with my Dremel! The fact is that I still haven't got the compressor back together. I am trying to work out a permanent home for it.

    Gents,

I have updated the attached change gear chart and calculator for the C6 lathe for more metric threads and readability, in case anyone finds it useful.

Did I also mention you can sharpen your chain saw teeth with a 4 mm diamond coated cylinder burr

Now lemee think of some more .......................

EDIT: Actually, I have a project in my head of designing an adapter to hold the grinder at the correct angle for the job, and allow the cylinder to be moved throught the cutter - just an idea at the moment.

    Cheers
