Something different a small silo
Hi there every one.
Had a few problem's with birds and kids getting into the grain for the chooks. So I thought I would have a go at making a small version of a grain silo.
The main part of the silo is a 16" dust extraction duct from work, (we had some replaced last year) and the cones are recycled flashing cut and rivited to form the shapes. I couldn't solder them unfortunately, there not true gal, there a aluminium type stuff. The 2 gates that alow the grain to be collected are galvanused. It holds about 80kg of grain. The top small section is removable and is held on by the 4 springs. Cost about $20 the rest was recycled. It stands about 5 foot.
Regards Jamie

That's some great work Jamie . Puts my crappy garbage bin feed storage to shame.
Is there a gate at the very bottom of the cone? If so why did you put one part way up?Cheers.
Vernon.

Thanks Vernon and China for the replies.
It is something out of the ordinary. I will admit, the cones arn't quite perfect but was my first attemt. The photo's hide some of the rough edges
There is a gate at the bottom of the cone so that you can retrieve all of the grain from the silo. The main gate is the one that faces you. This is used until grain no longer flow's from it. It is easier to fill any receptacle from that point as well. Besides if you used the bottom one with 80kg of grain on top of it, it would come out at quite a rush.
Thanks again.
Jamie
