Dave,
I imagine a number of former shaper owners has kept the vise because of this -

I saw that one a few weeks back and posted it up in the Alba thread, it was Pipe Clays from here. I already have the shaper just after a proper shaper vise to suit, their is no way the 15 inch one I bought is going to fit the Douglas.lol.

When I bought my shaper it did not have a vise. The blokes I bought it from said they'd have a look out the back of their shop because there was a chance they might find something that would fit. This was Fiora Machinery, from whom I have purchased a few machines.
I received a phone call a week after hauling the Douglas home, informing me that they had found a vise that might do. I was expecting that the vise they had for me would be a chintzy Chinese or sub continental number but no, what was sitting on their counter was the genuine article, a Douglas vise complete with it's handle, in nice nick. Cost me 60 bucks.
That handle, with it's tattered red paint, is currently winging it's way to Peter (Pipeclay).
Now and again you get lucky.
Bob.

Good job Bob. Yes as pointed out to me by a wise man (GregQ), the vice can make all the difference to the shaper deal. There's a couple of shapers I will take a look at, but without the vice things start to get a bit sketchy. I've already been stung like this once by buying a surface grinder without a magnetic chuck. At the time I said I'd take it I didn't think much of it but the chuck is now turning out to be a bit more that I had expected, even for a cheap Chinese one. Never mind, I'll just have to work harder to make up for it.
