Simple Tailstock Alignment Check
I am currently making a clamp to restrain my new tailstock barrel mounted turret.
The clamp so far is just a piece of black bar bored to fit the barrel.
Did the obvious thing and tried the barrel in the bore before removing from the chuck - photo attached showing barrel just into the clamp bore.
My Chinese micrometer indicates the barrel at 43.18 mm, the bore measured with a Starrett internal measurement head and the same micrometer indicated at 43.22mm.
The barrel went in without any friction or 'feel' at all, clamped or free.
With finger push on the barrel upwards or sideways left, right can feel the friction as the barrel enters.
A finger push down cannot be detected.
With all the recent discussion recently on tailstock alignment, I thought the photo might be on interest to some.
Note that I added a shim at the front of the tailstock to correct detected low height using the methods previously discussed, good to confirm the shim did its job.
John.
