    Default SK30 same as NT30?

    Hi,
CTC Tools parcel arrived today with a drill chuck and face miil. I ordered and the invoice says NT30 which matches my miil but what they supplied was SK30.
Is there are difference and what should I look for. Same drawbar thread and it looks the same without comparing them side by side - I'm at work still.
    Thanks for any help.
    Cheers,
    Rod

Taper is the same - all the rest may vary but will not affect use (in a major way)

    Same thing Rod.

I've ordered SK and received NT. I too was concerned initially. Not now.

why do they do that??... why not just stick to one standard of identification?

I may have missed out on some bargains thinking it wouldnt fit....not to be confused with what I wanted or needed

    Default More Murk

Just to add to the confusion the Continentals also have SA30. A year ago I bought a porte pinces schaublin SA30 E32 collet chuck for 15 Euros from France. E32 becomes ER32 by changing the nut.

Richard, you are not an orphan when it comes to missed opportunities. Not long after acquiring my mill there was a stunning Swiss made Rawyler boring head for a couple of hundred dollars on Ebay. I thought the head's NMTB 30 taper was different to the mill's ISO 30 so I walked away.

    Default Taper Tool Storage

    Young Rod,

How are you going to store those nice shiny tools?

I have often looked at these Sisanco racks but the price for shipping the 30 taper rack has always put me off. For some reason it is more than the NT40 rack. I would not have thought the little extra plastic would boost the price by 16 bucks. I emailed the maker a year or so ago and was told the shipping cost was due to the size of the rack. Still confused. I have a few of their collet racks.

I guess you will make something out of wood and I guess you can mill a nice tapered hole with that CNC mill.

    Hi Bob,
I was thinking the same thing last night while I was playing. I'm not sure about an open rack as the tapers might suffer the old flight rust problem. What about a closed container with a desiccant bag and a liberal coating of slippery stuff on the tapers.

Alternatively a couple of LED's in the box running off solar might keep the air dry. I need something to use up all that battery stored solar power.

I don't think you need a taper on the holes as the arbor flange should be good enough to support them for storage.

I'm thinking a box with say a 6mm thick acrylic shelf. Might do a prototype in MDF when I can get to my table saw - at the moment it is a horizontal shelf.
    Cheers,
    Rod
