    Default Better Than Sliced Bread - RC's Bandsaw Clamp

    I posted this photo in Josh's Deckel thread last night but given that more blokes own horizontal bandsaws than Deckels I though it was worth posting again here.

    I was one of the fortunate recipients of Richard's generosity earlier this year when he made and dispersed a number of these clamps to forum members. I wanted to cut a slice off the end of a not too long piece of 87mm diameter cast iron bar. I could not hold it in the saw's vice jaws. But with RC's device in place I could, making me and the young bloke waiting for the slice happy.

    Bob,
    Has the blade worn grooves in the bearings or does your model have guides pressed on the bearing.

    That is a very new and highly advanced design. The groove is intended to assist with keeping the blade running tru.

    Sure its not just "crud" built up on the bearing?

    It needed your 3D Xray vision - I think you have got it with cast iron crud buildup on the bearing.

    I'm going to take on Stuarts Superpowers and disagree, i reckon the bearings are grooved.....

    The clamps are brilliant things, i've used mine on a number of occasions. To stop the moving jaw tilting too far and the whole lot wanting to slip sideways, i use a packer at the other end of the clamp.

    I have the same special bearings on my saw. Took me about 20 years to get them....

    Sure is. A tenacious paste of cast iron grit and the spray on Trefolex that was on the blade from when I chopped up last weekend's 1045. Shabby housekeeping.

    Damn......that paste looks really neat, like it is part of the bearing. I should have known......

    Shabby houskeeping? The pile of swarf is not up to the blade yet. My BS is the one machine i don't really care to keep clean.
