Source for single 5C collets?
Good Evening,
Well, had my birthday recently and I received a pressie from one of my sisters. I now have a 5C collet chuck
Also got three indexable End Mills, 1/2", 9/16" and 5/8" with a 1/2" shank. I have a vertical milling attachment for my cross slide and hope to do some simple milling tasks on the lathe.
At this stage, I need a 1/2" 5C collet. Looking around has only turned up sets, in Australia I am looking at over $200+ for a set. I can get a cheaper set from CTC or CDCO but will have to wait.
Very keen to try out some milling this weekend.
Does anyone know of an Aussie company, preferably in the Perth area, that sells individual 5C collets?
Thanks,
Mike

Mike,
If you had the luxury of time you could pick up a Hardinge 5C collet on American Ebay for very little. Shipping time might knock that idea on the head even if you were prepared to wait beyond the weekend.
Have you tried K2 in Malaga or High Speed Tooling in Belmont? Fiora Machinery sell H and F products. They might sell one collet.

McJing tools (mcjing.com.au). They're in sydney but ship same day express, I typically get my orders (in brissy) next or 2nd day.

They sell for $30 each, both imperial and metric sizes listed.
McJING Tools Online
Certainly cheaper in sets from CDCO, even allowing for postage

Gregory,
What are you using the 5Cs in?
I've been tempted a number of times to buy a Hardinge HV-4 or even an H4 indexer but they are usually beat up and usually expensive. It also means another prolonged search for collets. Hardinge made quite an array of 5C variations. Still, it would be a less daunting and less expensive task than my pursuit of W-20 collets.

Bob, I need them for that Darex E-90 type grinder that I mentioned a while back. (It only came with a single 1/2"). Onlineseller has a 5C:ER32 chuck which I will buy to save having a crazy number of 5C's kicking around for the few off-size endmills I own.
I have always fancied a Hardinge Indexer too, until I read on one of the archived threads that they were never made at Hardinge but contracted out. Apparently they were a source of embarrassment for Hardinge reps...indifferently made, not at all what you'd expect with that name. I read that the Phase II are in fact better and the Japanese ones are the best.
