Spare 8" (200mm) 3-jaw chuck anyone?
Despite mine and Welder's best efforts, I've been unable to find a set of external jaws for my old American 8" 3=jaw chuck...
Does anyone have a spare one with at least the outside jaws?
I don;t care what it loks like (flight rust etc) or even if it's 'stuck' solid..... I don't mind the work making it go again - even grinding the jaws to make it accurate and recondition the grip faces...
Right now, I can't spring for a new one and they seem to be quite sparse on fleabay. I missed out on one tonight in Geelong - sadly so I thought I'd ask here....Cheers,
Joe

I copied out a couple of MEW articles about making up chuck jaws - PM me if you want a copy as it may be a way around the problem.

Hi everyone.
I have just spoken to the George on Gumtree advertising the two chucks and faceplate that Mike pointed me to.
He is prepared to take $200 for the lot.
Is anyone interested in going halves with me who has a use for the 10" 4-jaw and 12" faceplate?
George is having a look tomorrow to find the brands of the two chucks. He can remember his (hobby machinist) father buying them new, so they haven't been flogged out by dozens of apprentices....
Each half of the deal would be a very reasonable buy I think.
Please let me know - here or by PM.Cheers,
Joe

Well, I asked about general and more specific ally jaw conditionand he told me that there is a little surface rust but structurally and mechanically they were in perfect condition. In the crappy photo I can't see any marks on any visible jaw faces. I guess soemone would need to go have a look at them to confirm I'm not being fed bulldust of course....
You wouldn't be volunteering Peter, would you? George is in Blacktown.... no idea where the chucks are though...Cheers,
Joe

Yeah, been looking at that one too. Still naval gazing... had an offer of some external jaws if they fit from one of our readers 'Matt' and trying to figure out how to measure what I need and compare that with photos - to see if they get close....
Cheers,
Joe
