    Default Spewing

    Spewing today...

A lady advertised a 98 kilo (200 pound) single horn Anvil - in pretty reasonable condition on Gumtree locally (1 suburb away from me) for $20!

Rang all day, left message after message... and nada - not one reply to all my calls.

Checked again and it's removed... guess someone beat me too it.

    Still spewing even now.

Just needed to vent about it.

    Cheers

I feel for you. Had that happen to me as well.
Then you get the ones who sell the item but are too slack to remove the ad from guntree. Or stick a sign up frp a garage sale then never take the sign down after.

Wow. $20 for an anvil. I bet they realised what they were worth and cancelled the ad.
I just sold my old anvil through ebay a couple of months ago for about $700. A couple came up from Sydney with a hired truck to collect it. THEY WERE BUYING IT AS A DECORATOR ITEM. It really hurt. I had such trouble selling that anvil because they are so handy when you need one. I'd already withdrawn it from sale a couple of years ago after putting it on ebay. But I had stopped needing it and it was wasted doing nothing. The silver lining though was they also bought a couple of pieces of woodwork for another $300 and paid cash.

I've seen that ad cancelling thing happen before.

I think people post their ad, then go back to view their add and see what others are going for and then realize their mistake.
Or that collector has struck again!

    Default I'm

    I'm so tempted...

To ring her back one last time and leave a message saying - "look, I collect Anvils - and am seriously interested in the one your selling, but can't possibly offer any more than between $1000 and $1500 maximum!"

That way if she sold it for $20 - she will kick her own azz all up and down the street for a week, for not at least returning my calls, before she sold it for $20.

I haven't picked up the phone yet, but my hand has reached for it 3 times already, and I've had to stop myself each time.

I keep telling myself - "I am a better person than that".

I am just not sure that I believe myself fully - yet!

    Default Damn me I folded

    Damn me, I folded...

Rang her and said my offer was $1K sight unseen, and Top I would go to if it was as good as the pic looked, was $1500.

She said it went early on the Sat Morning.....for $20.

I could hear her cursing her stupidity, as she hung up - I think she mightta kicked the dog even...coz it yelped in the back ground!

    I shouldn't have done that.

I will have to pray EXTRA hard to forgive my sins tonight!

Dammit, stupid women shouldn't be allowed to sell stuff on Gumtree!.

If I put her Ph number up - anyone else wanna ring and top my offer - say $2K?

Honest de debbil made me do it.

So if the seller hadn't already sold it you would of said I will give you $1000.00 instead of the $20.00 being asked.

HaHa. I had to chuckle at that one.

    Well said.

The worst that can happen is you will fail.
    But at least you tried.

Yes had it happen recently with the Dental drill that was spotted in the air die grinder thread. I was watching and prepared to bid, when the ad was withdrawn, emailed the seller and yes, sorry item sold. No idea how much, and yes I do have one so why would I even need another one. Stupid question!!!!
    one might stop working.
At least I still have my Anvil, Aus made, STRONG ARM, great condition, not the biggest ever about 80kg.
I had friends who used to live in Mildura, there was a junk/scrap dealer who had about 5 acres of stuff, anything from old cement agitators to high carbon strip steel by the pallet load, he said guy's were buying it to make swords, unfortunately the wife was with me so I couldn't sneak a few lengths into the car. Why would you want to make swords??? Seriously how does the female brain work.
I digress, he had a matched pair of anvils, not quite sure why he said they were matched, probably he purchased them together, they were outstanding, very very good condition, he would not seperate them, I think they were 500lb each, he wanted $500 each, not bad $1 a pound, once again the handbrake was with me and I am not sure how the Commodore wagon would have gone with them in the back.
I have no idea if they are still there and my friends no longer live in Mildura but they have relos there so I could track down the name/location of the aladins junk property if anyone is interested.

    Cheers
    Bruce

With a sale like that and no reply on the phone, sometimes you just have to accept that you are too late and the phone is turned off / volumn down etc etc to avoid having to keep explaining. Sad but true.
