    Default Smelly stuff

As for a BBQ not sure you will ever get that bloody smell out
    Kev[/QUOTE]

Cheap bleach from the supermarket should get rid of the smell. We used to get 1000 litre drums of Ethyl Mercaptan for our processing, and the tiniest spillage was very evident. Bigger spills usually stank out the local neighbourhood

    Good luck with your project.

I guess at least the bleach smell goes away (eventually)... it reminds of when the whole horse flu thing was around - I was doing a lot of field work which included moving around a lot of farms. Between each farm the protocol was to spray down the whole underside of the 4wd with bleach to stop infections. I smelt like bleach for about 2 months straight.

Fellas, thanks those tips - yeah definitely, eskimo - I'll get right on to it. Danninjt - I hadn't thought of a boiling type use. Maybe one half in an upright position would make a really good mud crab cooker ! I still haven't investigated whether there is a strong mercaptan smell yet and whether I'll need to replace that with a bleach smell.
Here's some photos. You can see from the date on the plate that one was tested in 1988. The other one didn't have a similar plate on the tank itself, but I did notice there were other stamped plates inside the little connector housing on top. That might have some more info, but it was a bit dark so couldn't really make it out. The volume is a bit bigger than I thought to - going by the weight of water they supposedly hold.
    Cheers
