Well made a little more progress on the grinder. I turned down the gear Michael sent my and made a shaft.having new bearings in the lathe helps alot now I can take 5 mm off the diameter in one cut with negative rake carbide. Heres some of the action I cut the bar off using.a 6 tpi blade in the bandsaw. It was 30 and I need 12.7 mm so turned it down. The gear I held in the 4 jaw and machined to size then I drilled it 12 and used a little carbide tipped boring bar to bore it to 12.7 and used ball gauges to check the bore.

Boring out the casting was a little sketchy I had my vice at 90 degrees sitting on two 123 blocks held by two toe clamps only on one side
While the setup was not very rigid it did work I drilled the casting 14mm and then opened the hole up to 17mm for the bushes using the boring head my longest bar just reached. The only problem is the gear sticks out the bottom of the casting buy about 5 mm but does mesh well with the rack and the table traversesBETTER TO HAVE TOOLS YOU DON'T NEED THAN TO NEED TOOLS YOU DON'T HAVE

Did you thin down the rack? I think the drawing called for 3/8x3/8 and the rack you got was 3/8x3/4.
