Default Starting a Stent tool grinder.

Around two years ago Michael G sent me these stent casting, he had already machined the dovetails. So last weekend we finally made a start on it, I have machined most of the spindle and used my little atlas shaper for the first time in vein to machine the spindle casting.

    Hi Andre,
Good to see some progress, but no 40tpi threads
Its interesting to see you get the pattern of diagonal lines in the finish from the shaper too. I guess its the bull gear teeth leaving their mark?

Yeah I substituted the 7/16" 40 tpi model engineers for an m12 fine pitch it should work. As for the shaper I don't have any idea

well I pulled the project out of hiatuses, As I have the CVA almost wired up I had a go at cutting the tee slots for the table. They came out okay put I'm not 100% happy but it will do. They are 10 mm tee slots I roughed them out with a nice new 6mm cutter and hacked away with a blunt 10 mm till it was done learnt a lesson in climb vs conventional milling today

Where was the climb milling in the tee slot cutting?

Maybe he was using an undersized endmill requiring more than one pass?

Nice work Andre. The finish on your spindle looks great too!

Ueee, so you reckon those diagonal marks (your eyes are good!) are from the bull gear?

Girl, I don't wanna know about your mild-mannered alter ego or anything like that." I mean, you tell me you're, uh, super-mega-ultra-lightning babe? That's all right with me. I'm good. I'm good.

Well I don't know boys I might have my terms wrong but when I fed the tee slot cutter in it pulled in and shook the table going one direction but not going the other direction so may be the mill.

I would think that there is something either not fitting correctly or your gib may be to loose or you didn't remove backlash.

That could be the case but wasn't mentioned.

Well now you say this Pipeclay it was most likely was me not taking out the backlash as the problems only ensued in the first 1inch or two of cutting. I only thought climb milling as I was traversing in the direction you would go if using an endmill climbmilling. Does the direction of milling make no difference when cutting with both sides of a cutter ?

Makes no difference when cutting a slot as one side would be conventional and the opposite climbing.
