The new screw and nuts are almost finished so it's time to start on some new steel jaws to replace the cast iron originals. A lot of metal removal is required from the blocks of steel that I have but nothing too difficult to replicate.

I opted for a keyed fit for the handle hub because the original was secured with a 6mm spring pin which had been sheared at some time damaging the hub in the process, the 4mm square key should be a lot better.

Coming along really well. Looking at the gap between your left and right hand threads, those jaws must be very substantial in order to meet, (my machine is missing all that you see).

I would say that the vice has about a 6 inch opening Karl, these machines use a 350mm diameter saw blade and can cut some pretty big sections. You can get an idea of the vice size by looking at the jaws in one of my earlier posts which also shows the blocks of steel to make new ones.
