    Default Steelmaster 1022 v 0920A lathe

Can someone possibly confirm if the 1022 Steelmaster is a belt drive direct to the spindle and uses a larger belt as opposed to the 0920a. Also what size motor? The specs indicated .55kw for the 1022 and .075kw for the 0920A, makes sense to be the other way around to match the lathes sizing. Not having much luck with the sales rep or any specific web or forum searches.

Noise is my concern after hearing a HAFCO AL250 running (belt via geared head) V AL50 direct small belt drive.

My thoughts are that it is direct belt to spindle as it appears to be a clone of the Grizzly 10x22.

    Thanks in advance.

I wouldn't call it a clone of the 10x22, but it is similar in some ways.

This link has some photos which show the drive system.

Interesting lathe, but unfortunately it only has a M2 tailstock and a smallish spindle diameter. Also a small way prism for the tailstock (which is an odd looking build).

Countering that it has a solid looking reverse tumbler, cam lock tailstock, and a power cross feed, OK for the money I suppose.

    Cheers

Wouldn't have minded picking that up for $349++, add a 1hp 3phase motor and VFD and you have a nice lathe.

Thanks for the replies and info guys. Much appreciated.
Now to make a decision.... Buy Local (different machine) or interstate.
