Looking at it logically the part needed is from a non throw away lighter if it is butane refilled.

Perhaps the part could be made by person, skilled in machining very small parts, like an old time watchmaker who can and did make replacement parts. I know this as my late father was a watchmaker.

How many parts does he need? Can you friends' father provide a provide a sample?

I happen know a local who has this skill and equipment. He also is a watch maker and rebuilds clocks right down to machining components from raw stock.

PM me with some contact details and I will be happy to chase him up and see if he is interested.

How large a tank does he want? You can get refillable BBQ lighters with the valve for a few dollars in supermarkets. However the tank is a plastic moulding incorporating the refill valve housing.

I suspect that breaking up a unit to get the valve alone might not be viable due to the problem of bonding the fill valve housing into another tank. However it might be viable to use the entire tank assembly including refill and draw off systems.
