Jordon ! from my point of view (and I am a bit out of date now ) these tools are a bit more forgiving when it comes to dig ins and other things that can happen in parting off , The body is made from spring steel usually, or at least Good quality high tensile steel, this allows some give when needed ,the angled holder will move away from the job because of the Arc ,a straight tool can only go downwards under a chip jam or overload, hence High speed tools will break as no give. and the same with modern insert tips ,great on modern lathes that are powerful and rigid ,and flooded with coolant hehe, my old Hafo doesn't meet any of those criteria , hence the need for something a bit more forgiving , In the past I have parted up to 5" dia with these under power feeds ,with a consistant pressure on the tool giving nice curling even shavings , that said it's horses for courses , anything up to about 2" dia should be a piece of cake on modern machines with modern tools
    Cheers ~ John
