Super Adept
Hi,
I couldn't help it but i bought a Super Adept off evilbay.
I had to get it delivered to my work as I haven't told the missus yet. It'll be the next project I do when my Myford/Portass (the Portass is coming along nicely, will post some photo's soon) is done.
I've been keeping my eye out for a Adept or TNC for awhile now, and won this auction. Stoked .
I put a 150mm rule next to it to give it some proportion, it sure is small. The blokes at work couldn't stop laughing .
Cheers Ben
ps I should mention, I had to get it sent up from Warnabool, the previous owner boxed really well and drove it to a courier depot for me.

Ben I think that motor is an overkill mate, they are usually driven by a singer sewing machine motor.

Well done Ben.
I think you've got enough power for it, anyway.

Yep, that's the general response from most of the blokes at work. It is supposed to be a model engineers lathe or jewellers lathe but to me I'll just use it to remind me what I've left at home (moving to Brissie for work).
I'm looking at a sewing machine motor and controller on ebay but will wait awhile.
I must admit I was surprised at how small it is. When I get settled in (and away from the missus's prying eyes) I'll post some better photo's.

Shoe box lathe
Struth, what a beauty, looks even smaller than my Unimat 3 lathe.
These little lathes are far from toys and very useful.
Well done.

Hi,
Nice photos of some nice little lathes.
Battiwallah, did you paint yours or did it come like that? I'll do a little fix up of mine soon.
Graziano, does your TNC have a sort of webbing on the back of the main casting? I seen one on Ebay last week and it had the webbing I'm speaking of (I just ask because Adept's and TNC's are meant to be indentical. But some of the original TNC's may have been made by Hercus).
I got the little lathe home yesterday without the missus knowing, still boxed and hidden under a pile of boxes etc. Trying to talk her into letting me buy a Mars Great Scott needing a some TLC (no way I can hide that one).
Cheers Ben

The Adept.
Hi All Adept Owners,
Yes I have one as well, & mine is different again from the ones in the Photos.
Mine seems to have the Original Paint of a Navy Blue, does not have the Thread Cutter ?, has a different belt set up, has no markings, other than " Adept " & " British Made "
I do have a Independent 4 Jaw Chuck, & a Sewing Machine Motor & Controller as well.
The Adept has a Thrust Bearing, that wood need constant oiling, I think.
The Belt is one piece Black Round Rubber Approx. ¼ in.
I bought it at a Deceased Estates Auction, for a whole $61. I thought I was Christmas.
I've been hoping to get it going for when we go to " Down Under Turn Around " this year, which is in early September, at Cowes, on Philip Island, VIC.
Now there's a Place to go for all you Wood Turners, 3 days of Fun & Turning.
Most likely full by now, but you can always put your name on the list, in case they have someone that can't make it.
You could Ph. Caroline on 03 59 567300.Regards,
issatree.

The Motor.
Hi Ben,
I wood have to find it 1st. & I really have problems with this photo thing.
If you went to a Sewing Centre, you wood most likely pick one up from there.
I'll see what I can do about a Photo, as it is about time I got my act together.Regards,
issatree.

TNC lathe
I also have one of these TNC lathes,, and a question for Graziano and Battiwallah..
My mandrel is hollow, not solid.. There is a shoulder behind the tapered 3/8 x 24 UNF thread that acts against a thrust bearing..
Interested to know if your is the same.. esp thread form !
Ken.
