Default supplies of castings in Australia ?

I've been reading various books in workshop practice series.

They sometimes refer to companies that supply castings

ie this mob have various castings available

    The College Engineering Supply

and other companies are referred to as having castings for example the basic shell of some home made dividing dividing heads are castings purchased from various places.

Generally if I google looking for woodwork stuff I'm fairly successful but when googling for metalwork stuff in Australia has been relatively frustrating. Maybe I dont understand the correct keywords to use I usually get lists of big suppliers rather than people who would deal with hobbyists.

I dont want to learn how to cast things yet.

Am curious - Any hints ?

    Bill

    Hi Bill,

It was a fruitless search for me in Australia. There were some suppliers but they didn't really have much. I would of thought that someone supplied TAFE's and schools etc for metalworking projects (and hopefully home workshop people). There were places in England but I didn't get much further than looking at their websites. If you do go ahead with it, let us know. There's a bloke in the US I bought a South Bend Tee Slot Cross slide off which turned out really well. I can't remember their address but look in the Hercus section and you'll find my OP about it. He did do a lot of other (mainly South Bend orientated) stuff.

I just picked up another casting from the foundry yesterday & discussed with them a couple other projects I have in mind. They're quite happy to work with me on it, to the point of making the patterns for me if I wish (and am prepared to pay).

As I've said previously, I really don't see that there's an issue here.

This is the site I was talking about:

    Metal Lathe

the freight is a real killer though.
