    Default Another Swedish Import

    Not from Ikea.

Yesterday's Ebay haul. The seller posted a number of photos of this Sunnex 12v 20W machine lamp but I assumed that the spiral cord was part of the power cord to the lamp's integral transformer. I got a surprise when I opened the box.

The lamp detaches by simply sliding back a collar. I can't tell you how many times I've struggled with a bloody Dolphin torch and a jeweller's loupe to see what I'm doing. This should prove handy as long as I keep it clear of the cutters.

    Hi BT,
Looks good, does it have its own supply or plug into the mill?
I might have to borrow that idea for my LED lights. I currently just have them on a cheap dial gauge magnetic base.

    Mains powered Stu.

I need to put my mind to coming up with a neat bracket to mount it on the 13. Same mounting location as the H + F lamp but maybe with some sort of quick release allowing it's use on other machines. Of course I could be just dreaming.

    Hi BT,

Yep, love those beautiful swedes... I have been toying with the idea of making a cree led worklight, those are the super bright led's you find in high end torches, they run cold, and put out a nice clear white light, and of course dimmable.

A couple of dumb questions... How hot does it get, is it still comfortable to hold as a portable worklight?

    Regards

    Ben,

This is the item number 390364988741.

If that's a dead end, here is the seller, have a look at the feedback , the lamp will be there items in avitarunlimited store on eBay!

This is a 230 volt lamp sold in a 110 volt country hence the bargain. Check out Sunnex's website Sunnex, Inc.- manufactures halogen lights, fluorescent lamps, lighting and vision systems for assembly, medical, and consumer markets, anti-vibration mounts, leveling machine mounts and pads.

The detachable head model is not listed.

After being left on for 45 minutes the plastic lamp head is warm. The reduced diameter section at the rear is uncomfortably hot. I can't imagine needing to have it on that long if I mount it on the mill. Sunnex make LED versions of the lamp.

    Hi BT,

Thanks for that, I checked out the Sunnex web site, (The Grainger one says it's down for maintenance) and looking at the prices i'd say you got a real bargain!...

Also, thanks for linking to that seller, he has a pretty eclectic mix of high end RF test gear and mil spec tools.. I love the mil spec calibrated crimping tools..

A NASA Spacelab fluorescent light, now there's something you don't see every day.. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Genuine-NASA...item3f107786cf

    Ray,

The fluoro was made by Bell ITT. Any idea of what happened to Bell Laboratories? Gone? My little brother was employed there in the mid eighties.

    Hi BT,

Still around, owned by Alcatel Lucent now apparently.. Bell Labs - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I seem to remember the big anti-monopoly break-up back whenever that was, they called the fragmented parts like "Pacific Bell", "Mountain Bell" the "Baby Bells" not forgetting of course the Mexican phone company "Taco Bell"
