Default Another Swiss Boring Head - A Tiny Kaiser

    24mm in diameter tiny. Bores 0.4 -15mm!

This Kaiser was in an German eBay auction last night ending at 1am Perth time. I placed a bid at dinner time thinking I'd probably wake to find an outbid notice awaiting me. Mine for EUR 54.99. A bit less than the Piccolo!

Schaublin offered the head as an accessory for their mills. It was supplied with a 10mm diameter straight arbor facilitating its use with, in the case of the 13 and 53, their 6000 rpm high speed heads.

The arbor on last night's win is a 1 Morse. The head accommodates 4mm diameter cutters, the finding of which should be a challenge.

A search for the Tosei connection has so far proven fruitless. Tosei sounds Japanese. Kaiser have been in partnership with BIG Daishowa Seiki since the early eighties though this head looks the same as the one pictured below in the 1962 13 catalogue. Michael G encountered a helpful fellow at Kaiser when we were fiddling around with our boring and facing heads. The same bloke may be able to shed some light on who Tosei was.

    Well done Bob.
You may have to stock up on 4mm tool/ silver steel to make the bars.

Not as thin as you might think Ray. Here are a couple of Deckel SK40 arbored heads, both pretty small. Both would look nice on the FP2LB. The Kaiser sold for EUR 106, the Wohl, 81 on eBay.de a couple of weeks ago.

Michael, I like the silver steel suggestion. Even more reason to get this bloody IKEA kitchen out of the way and refocus on the T and G grinder.

And Variant, if Kaiser want 856 bucks for a piddly little 30 arbor what do you reckon a digital head would set you back!!! I'll stay with the old fashioned stuff.

A little OT, but what's the practical way of getting funds to ebay sellers in Germany? Very few seem to accept paypal, and while almost all accept Credit Plus that outfit does not seem to be represented here. Or do you use international bank transfer?

    Cheers,
    Bill

    Thanks Bob,
I am aware of that parcel forwarding service. They provide an address in Germany, and if necessary consolidate parcels, but unless I am mistaken they will not handle the payment side of a transaction, so I am still a bit stuck with paying sellers on ebay.de. Have I somehow missed an obvious simple way of doing that?
    Regards,
    Bill

    Sorry Bill,
I glossed over the important part of your question, how do you pay them? The problem for us as buyers with the international bank transfer is paperwork plus a $35 fee. As far as using Paypal goes, it would be worth asking the seller if it's an option.

For what it's worth: eBay is not allowed to force users in Germany to have that as an option. That's one of the reasons many Germans don't offer it and many haven't even heard of it. I always ask if they or someone in their family has a Paypal account and suggest they open one for the convenience and to go looking at the PayPal site. Most get back to me and will take PayPal.
The Credit Plus thing is an ad! Most Germans haven't heard of that either! It is not a payment method and it is not owned by eBay - that's why they are allowed to put it there. It is a firm that offers credit to finance your purchases, not pay for them... og figure. I actually mistook that as a pyment option too and went through the process of trying to register for it - all in German - until I realised what they were offering....
You can send money to a foreign (incl. German) bank account by EFT via xe.com It costs $20. I had to do that to purchase some custom stuff in Taiwan direct from the factory and registered to do so. The banks here are a rip off for foreign transactions and usually the receiver has to pay a fee at their end too and they are generally not very happy about it.... If you do go the bank way, make sure you ask the reciever to check with their bank, so you can add that amoutn to your payment - or they will never sell you anything again.... or anyone else in Australia for that matter.
    Cheers,
    Joe

    Default Here it is.

    Works perfectly.

The top ring is a 5um vernier, fully rotatable for zeroing. The lower ring positions the slide. The head is tiny. The boring and facing head isn't exactly large at 63mm in diameter. I was a little surprised to find that the head was made in Japan. Explains the Tosei in the name.
