Thread: Table power feed unit

Do you me the same design or the same brand?
Because when they sent me the two power feeds I bought for my Y and Z axis, they sent me one Asong and one ALSGS brand. When I questioned them about it because I wanted them all matching and their add showing the Asong brand, they said the where just a generic brand. That was around 4 years ago, so if you wanted a specific brand you would need to contact them to see what they have in stock at the moment. I have found no difference in performance between the 2 and have had no trouble with them at all.
For me in the end it didn't matter because the first mill I fitted them to had a 240v 135lbs Asong factory fitted to the X and the replacement second mill they sent had a 110v 135lb ALSGS on the X, so they would have ended up being mixed brands anyway.
The only difference in manufacturing between the 2 different brands is one had a slightly bigger brass bevel gear (about 2mm) that would not fit the other one (the ALSGS from memory). Also one had a 4 wires going to the limit switch and the other one only had 3.
The only difference on the out side is the control sticker and the pattern on the side of the casing runs in the opposite direction on one. Also the ALSGS has a square cushion type knob on the direction handle where the Asong is a round hard one.
I think the companies are all copying each other, just with minor adjustments.
From what I have seen, the ones meant to fit strait onto the mill drill sit higher than the table, which means you would have to work around it for machining longer jobs that needed the whole table, or need to over hang that end.

I said that particular one because it comes with the mounting plates.
They sit around 27 mm proud of the table, nothing that a pair of Vee blocks wont fix.

From what I have seen over the years, the standard type power feed designed for Bridgeport all come with the table mounting plate as it's needed to fit it.
The Ozmestore one does as well

G'Day Fellas,
After a lot of reading, web searching and picking your brains (and a couple of scotches) have ordered the complete left hand side bolt on kit unit from the states, more expensive at $US 411 including postage but should be on and working pretty quickly and doesn't interfere with the right hand dial and handwheel , next on the list is a DRO for the X and Y axis'. I recently fitted a vertical LCD scale type to the quill and love it.
Once again many thanks for your help.
Regards,
Martin

When it arrives you may have to mark the position of the set screw holes in the plate that screws to the inside of the table, just to give the screws a bit more purchase.
Also be carefull not to tighten the screws excessively as the mounting is aluminium.

G'Day,
Thanks for the tip, I was thinking of cleaning up the inside of the channel with a stone mounted in the router as the surface there is as rough as guts, this should give a flat surface for the bolts to grip against.

The bolts may be pointed to allow them to grip. What I should of added before in regards to marking the holes is so you can dimple them slightly with a drill.

Those plans I linked you to say to drill a counter sink type hole for the screws to sit in on the inside of the table.
Glad you got it sorted and are getting what you want for a reasonable price. H&F's are way out of line with there prices, and you still need a transformer with them as well.

If it's not to late, it might be worth getting them to throw in a spare gear ($20). I have never broken one but the are the vulnerable link in the system. If you have it sent with the unit wont cost any more on postage.

Hi Dave ,
A rat through through the graveyard turned up a 110 volt transformer from an old 16mm projector, probably big enough to run 20 power feed units but the price is right. All things considered the unit from the U.S. works out to about 10 bucks more than the Ozme unit without the work involved to adapt it (mind you it would have been an interesting project, but I have a shitload of paying work backed up at present) will post some pics when fitted.
Regards,
Martin
