Default What are these tailstocks for?

    Hi Everyone,
As some of you may have noticed, I have posted heaps about the CC engineering tool and cutter grinder I have been restoring.
I'ts working ok as a light surface grinder now and I still have a box of bits that I have no idea what to do with.
I will be grateful for any explanations and advice on these two 'tailstocks', and how they are used and what they are used for.
Thanks as always for your good help.
    regards
    Brian

Could also be used for sharpening taps, threading type, not water Possibly used for centre grinding too.

    RC---You are the Man!!
Thank you. That's exactly what I needed to make sense of all the 'funny' bits I have in the box.
    Hours of reading pleasure!
    thanks again Brian

    Kryn,
My problem is that I have no idea what 'centre grinding' means. I may have seen a machine doing it at some time in the toolroom, but just not taken it in at the time (40 years ago)

Basically Centre Grinding is where you have a "shaft" that is hardened, that needs to be to a certain size. So mounting it between centres, is where these tail stocks come in. Some machines use power to centre grind, being automated, but in your case it would be turned by hand, (Mexican politicians) Manuel Labour.
