Default Need a tapered reamer to ream a 3/8" hole

    Hi guys

Just thought I'd see if any one here has a tapered reamer to ream a hole out that is 3/8" all the way through and if possible a tapered pin to suit whilst I have crane off the truck, otherwise I'll have buy a reamer.

Gearshift on the Acco is getting sloppy, it originally had a 5/16" taper pin in it but was drilled to suit an 8mm bolt 3 or 4 years ago and that has now worn the hole through the shaft to the point that gear changes are sloppy again.

So hole is currently 3/8" to get past the wear but should be reamed to fit a taper pin rather than a bolt, hence my request for help.

I do have experience with tapered reamers from my coppersmith years and I am prepared to pay for hire of reamer and tapered pin if you have one available.

Pics of crane off the the old girl on the newer truck and of where the pin needs to go, currently has a 3/8" bolt in shaft.

There's a seller on Ebay called C-tool who normally has tapered reamers.
From your description it probably needs to be something like a no. 8 taper, so possibly this?

This is a very good chart for working out which taper reamer and pin to use with which size hole. You will need a 7 or 8 reamer if you are starting off with a 3/8"ish hole.

The taper pins are available from any half decent industrial supply business.

Used taper reamers are often on ebay quite cheap. They are always "like new" and of course they are not, but should be OK for one hole.
