    Hi,
I use drill bits quite a bit to set up tapers. For the 1:48 taper pins i used a 2mm drill over a 96mm length, against my tailstock quill. Worked perfect first time. I have a set of drill 1-6mm x .1 ans a set of .3-1.5 x .05 though.

    Brilliant idea Ewan.
I have a set of No Drills (not metric) they range from No 1 .228" dia all the way down to No 60 .040" dia in steps of one thou to two thou.
I hope you can understand the above figures because its too difficult for me to convert to metric.
I had never thought of using the drills for measuring, sometimes the obvious is staring one in the face, & its overlooked.
    Thanks for the hint.
    regards
    Bruce
ps Just received the roller in the mail today, thanks so much.
Did you cut down the wide roller to make yours narrower. If so what width did you make it?

    Hi Bruce,
No need to convert to metric, as a apprentice we only used metric so most of my tools are metric. Lately there has been a big imperial swing though with these old American machines! The idea is yet another from one of Harold Hall's books

Aus post must have there buts in gear this week! I bought a 4" brayer before Nicks post about the toner rollers, i guess it depends on the size of work you plan to do. I really don't have the experience to help with the size otherwise.
