Mine has a 4 jaw chuck similar to a conventional tap wrench.

Drill chuck has 4 jaws normally, tap has 4 flats. No way will a drill chuck hold a tap in a tapping adaptor with the chuck jaws on the tap shank.

The ones I have used have had a resilient collet system to centre and retain the tap and a smalll self centering clamp/dog system to drive the tap. This style.
