Maybe look up the word "gloat".
I don't see what the big deal is - it's just gleeful satisfaction.
Leave as is - it's been OK until now.

But at least you tried.

This is getting embarrassing. Would it help, if with Andre's permission we just changed the name to todays tool purchase?
No one pulled him up on it 3 years ago, as a 15 / 16 year old kid, 1st September 2011.
You guys hanging your shingle, that "gloat means you ripped some one off". Its simply not true. Words evolve. I'd hazzard a guess that the young bloke borrowed it from some thing that he's heard from another forum (HSM).
I've noted we are not disscussing other forums, but I need to make this point. A Quick internet search of "Todays Tool Gloat" yeilds hits from Nelson's Hobby forum, thru to ZRX owners. (Who ever they hell they are). Point in case, just about every forum on the earth, recognises gloat to mean purchased / obtained. Trust my luck to belong to the one, that thinks you have stolen something.
In internet slang "gloat" only means you are sharing with your online community. No thing more, nothing less.
That would tend to suggest to me, that in this day and age, you can substitute gloat for purchase. It doesn't mean you have stolen anything, nor ripped any one off, nor gotten something cheaper than you should have.
You blokes have to get into the 2,000's. It doesnt mean what it meant in the 1,800's
I waisted an hour this afternoon, and a further 1/2 hour after dinner. Just to find what was so offensive. I did a fast scan on 36 pages / 1400 plus posts. I cant find a single incidence, where some one said. "I meet this estate widow, and I made out like a bandit, because I told her it was only worth scrap value, and I'd be doing her a favour by taking it away for free.
Can any one show me a post that was a gloat for gloats sake where they have ripped some one off?
And if: If the word gloat offends you so much, how hard would it be to preface you post, with " I don't consider this a gloat, but here's what I got today". I cant be this hard surely.
If I was to ever show you the things I buy, it would normally start with, heres some thing I paid too much for, but I got in a biding war. Yet I'd still put that in the gloat thread.. (Who ever the hell they are). There 10 pages of hits. And they all have tool gloats.

I'm actually embarrassed to be a member here at the moment.
This wouldn't be an issue if Ashburn wasn't flapping his gum's

And here's why, all in the same 24 hours. He's dirty on what happened to his old mans estate. None of which have any true meaning in what happened in Andre's "gloat" thread.

You have to be fair man. Would'nt the truth of the matter be, your just dead dirty on on any one that buys things?
Phil.

Guys this is getting abit out of hand. It's just one word. As I have said I don't care about the name it can be changed lets talk about something of interest rather than #hit throwing lets leave that to the Americans
BETTER TO HAVE TOOLS YOU DON'T NEED THAN TO NEED TOOLS YOU DON'T HAVE

Has it taken near 3 years and 95 screen pages to become offended at a word in a post tile ?
Today's Tool Acquisition that's about as strong as milk toast ,isn't it?
No fun at all.
A better idea!
When some one posts about obtaining a new tool we could do this. We could all rip into him/her about what business he/she had purchasing the tool/tools and making the rest of us feel terribly jealous with envy.
We could call it:
Today's Tool Inquisition

Blessed are those with thin skin - whether they are offended by the "G" word or not.
Techno, it is obvious that the thread is comprised of those who are offended by it and also those who are not, otherwise it wouldn't have gone for 70 posts and still going strong, would it?
Cheers

Dean, since you started this thread, I think only you can lock it.
For god's sake close it and lock it and throw away the key. I kick myself now for responding to it the other day.....Cheers,
Joe

This is a great forum and you contribute a lot to it...you should not feel embarrassed.
Your post tells me the opposite..it is the others who should be embarrassed...but no... to overcome their embarrassment, they want things changed to somehow hide their guilt of being so sensitive to words they unrightly think is/are offensive and directed at them
