    Default Beginners luck ? Terrific finish !

    Thanks for the comments and clarifications so far.

    Decided to have a go today ..................This was my first significant tool grind, all others just touch ups ................................. and it worked !

    a smooth glassy finish makes all of my other pieces look like black vinyl records.

    Hercus 9" 520rpm approx 20mm diameter

    Ironically I found it very difficult to take photos showing the difference - the daggy finish shows up better than it is and the smooth finish looks quite striated even though my eyes and fingers tell me its very smooth.

    No, just had another look there are fine lines in it but an infinitely better finish than previously. Was just too happy to see them before.

    Bit and finishes shown in photo.

    Will try and grind it better tomorrow.
