tight bushing
First of all, my thanks to pipeclay who has helped me get this far in repairing my Reid surface grinder by turning up the replacement bronze bushings for it. The man is a joy to watch as a tradesman and a gentleman besides. Thanks pipeclay!
I did the necessary milling and splitting of the bushes myself, and one of them 'collapsed' slightly, providing a tight fit on the spindle and is consequently overheating now that the machine is reassembled.
I could have asked pipeclay direct, but this is a noob question and hopefully someone else will benefit from asking it here, so, what is the best fix? Several solutions come to my mind, but what would the experts do?

Can you replace the bushing with another one best option or
get the correct size adjustable reamer (will cost you ) and slowly ream out the hole to give you the correct roundness - sizeAshore

erle depending on how much it has collapsed you could use a flap wheel to take a few thou out of it,not the most accurate method, other alternative to try is to push an other shaft with tappered lead into the bush and try and open it this way.(For the record these are a split bronze bush with parallel id and tappered od)

If the bushes are split through both sides (in two halves ) remove them and place a piece of paper over a shaft of the same diameter and give them a whack with a nylon hammer .
If you can do it while in the machine ,while its running all the better. With out the paper of course.
I've seen this done many times and it works ."Outside of a dog a book is man's best friend ,inside a dog it's too dark to read"
