    Default Turn back time

Here I am at the age of....., well old.

How I wish I could turn back time.

My time in my younger years, has always been in the engineering game. Design something, have it made, and wallah, there it is, in cold, hard steel. So satisfying.

If it wasn't quite right, I'd tear strips off the poor bloke that had to interpret my drawings.

Today, I only have myself to blame if something doesn't come out right. Today I have the luxury of experience.

Today I can draw something up, and pass it on to the 3D guys who produce images I could only dream of, and there it is, perfect.

I'm drifting way off topic, all I wanted was to remind you that daylight saving finishes at 3:00 am. Enjoy the extra hour's sleep, I will.

    Ken

    RT,

Probably running around putting out fires, now there's just embers and smoke.

At least you would have been an hour ahead of it.

A disaster, you could say that, and thanks for asking.

Totally out of the blue, a blood test result came back to suggest that diabetes was imminent. Medication was immediately prescribed. 6 months later, another blood test revealed kidney disease was imminent. 47% function, and it showed, my kids reckoned I looked yellow, and I did feel crook.

I was whipped into hospital for medication, however the outcome was not looking too good. My kidney function had dropped to around 12%. The kidneys are one organ that does repair itself, when it's gone, it's gone.

I persevered for 12 months kidding myself that I'd come good. It wasn't going to happen, so had to face dialysis for the rest of my life.

I'm now fine, but am unable to work as before. I just accept dialysis, 3 days a week, 4 hours a day, as part of my life, for without it, I wouldn't be here to take the out of my Forum mates.

My message is, have regular blood tests, a stitch in time.......

Ken , I'm so sorry to hear that your health is compromised to the extent you have described. That is one hell of a kick in the guts, and the only consolation being that we live in times where technology gives us options which were denied those who came before us. So often we take our good health for granted and it is not until we are presented with something like you have bee handed on a plate, that we even think about it, and when we do it hits home that good health is worth a kings ransom.
Feel free to take the p*** as much as you like if it takes your mind off the dark side of things, just don't be too vicious as some of us are sensitive little souls.
I'm sure that I speak for everyone here when I wish you all the best that is possible for you now, and I really hope that perhaps a transplant may be possible to enable a more normal lifestyle for you in future, but if not then continued advances in medical science to improve your outcome.
I realise that you probably can't be on-line when undergoing dialysis, but if you can find the time, have a look at the links I put in a previous post in this thread. If you aren't already familiar with them, they make most interesting reading, and one may be of interest to you in relation to your Arboga dials. If you can use the laptop during your "downtime", it will sure help pass the time.
My message is, have regular blood tests, a stitch in time....
I heartily support your suggestion here, annual checkups are the way to go, and anyone over 50 needs to get them done even if there is no family history to cause extra concern.
Cheers for now Ken and as Rolf Harris used to say, "keep on keepin on",
    Rob.
