Am I in that network? Are we talking about the same straight edges?I've been that busy this week, I've not paid any attention. Bruce A has them, I've just sent him an SMS, in case Saturdays work for him, offering a free lunch we will put on R.C's account . I think they are due here. After that I wasn't sure what to do with them.

Regardless I've put a full stop to that, when they get here, I'm sending them East to Hastings for a lick of the slide way grinder. R.C know's of this. I've not consulted Ewan. Its been that sort of week. I'm figuring we can knock all the rust, nicks and dings off, and send them North with sub half thou left to do.

    Regards

    Phil.

    Hi Phil,
I was going to leave mine with Bruce until something convenient came up. Like the scraping class...
Anyway, Ray will be up here again next week, and Stuart went to see Ray today. So the straight edge is now with Ray. The grinding offer is a damn good one but I don't want to put the relay runners out.

I'm heading north on Tuesday next week, but not as far as Rocky... so I'll run Ewans Straight Edge to Canberra... but then again that offer of Phil's to do a slideway grinding job is pretty attractive, I could handball back to Stuart who is heading South on Sunday and it could be back at Phil's place.

So, it's your call Ewan, North or South? I'll be driving up to Canberra anyway.

PS.. Now to figure out how I can get a free lunch on RC's account ..

Oh boy. I really want some grinder tooling but no disposable $.
I'm not even going to ask for his number.
Great haul BTW. You know there's a Clarkson manual floating around?
I saved it so I can repost or email if you can't find it.

I just hope that it was the brother in hospital who set the prices on his stuff, not the brother you dealt with. Otherwise, it could get ugly.

One of the reasons I have never liked this thread is, to me, 'tool gloat' brings to my mind the picture of someone gloating over a super-good deal - achieved at someone else's expense. That simply doesn't sit right with me.

I've got a lot of stuff at what I considered a good price over the years, but I've *never* bought anything that I'd gloat over based on its price. In every case, the seller was as happy with his side as I was with mine. My fondest memory is getting my Chipmaster lathe, when I told the 85 y/o seller that he had greatly underpriced it and I'd understand if he withdrew it from sale or raised the price significantly. He sold it to me anyway and threw in a huge bunch of extra tooling when I rounded up the payment - said his son in law had told him all his machinery was only worth scrap value and offered to take it away for $500.

No doubt his son in law would have gloated over the deal - if he'd been successful. I did hope, at the time, that he suffered greatly for his greed.

PDW I understand and agree with you and had I started the thread now I wouldn't have named it as such. I remember when I started it, I was in year 10 and took a day "off" school to go to an engineering place selling up.And some more recent acquisitions

Good to see you got some blocks Andre. Those ones we were looking at on ebay when you were here went for far too much in the end IMO.

I too think "Latest tooling acquisition" or somesuch is a better thread name, lets face it we all get a bargain from time to time but and i hope anyone reading doesn't think that we are sitting here enjoying ripping people off.

I'd go with that - can a moderator rename a thread or should we just close this one and start another

So people get upset when the word is spread about an upcoming auction and people get upset if someone stays mum on an auction and gets a cheap second hand item...

    That is a paradox...

If anything this thread keeps me on my toes as to knowing there are bargains out there, but you have to search them out...
