    Thanks MG,

After you mentioned that I quickly googled BA threads. Then I remembered I had a BSW thread pitch gauge, most of the threads I checked are 20 TPI and 32 TPI for the smaller threads. I will borrow work's BSW tap and die set (I think we have one) and tap some holes and see if they fit. Some of the bolts aren't brass, they may be stainless steel because a magnet wouldn't pick them up.

    Ben.

    The 32 TPI ones could be 5/32 Whitworth thread, once a very common size, nominal O/D 0.156, or UNF 10:32, O/D 0.190, also very common, or UNF 8:32, O/D 0.164, or UNC 6:32, O/D 0.138, or 2BA 31.4 TPI , O/D 0.185, or M5 31.7 TPI O/D 5 mm, or, less likely, any of the ME 32 TPI series.

    Plenty of choices here!

Default The RAAF had the inclination

    Hi All

I am planning to move my lathe and would like to a better job of installing it so I have been on the lookout for a precision level. Today I picked this up, its an engineers clinometer.

    IMG_0320.jpg

The vertical scale is 10 degrees and the vernier has 60 divisions ie each division is one second. The vial is then graduated in half seconds. Slapping it on the top of the Vs of my lathe shows 4 seconds of twist down the bed. I will check it properly later with some ground blocks on the bed.

It has an interesting history. It was manufactured by Glass Developments Ltd in 1952, a bit of googling indicates that they were a London company that is long since defunct. It is marked with the government's broad arrow and came with a bit of RAAF paperwork about how to wrap it up. I know that the modern version of this is used to set things like the angle of approach beacons at airports. I am not sure what the RAAF would have used it for in the 50's?

    Regards

    Ian

That looks like a useful thing, but does it chime?

Given its origin, you'd think it would at least have a tick tock hidden inside. Maybe mine's the budget model.

Looks like it. But someone on here(or that used to be on here) owns one. There is a thread on here somewhere that should show you whats missing.

Much to my surprise I found it without to much trouble.
