Tool bit storage tubes
Hi Guys,
I bought some used taps and looking to get some containers to store them in. I know any old sealable container will do but I was hoping to get some like my other bits are stored in. Does anyone know what they are called? I musn't be using the right search terms at Ebay.
Thanks

It will be interesting if you can find a source Marty. I have been looking, half heartedly, for the past 6 or so years. My naked cutters reside in compartmentalised plastic fishing tackle boxes. I would prefer the telescoping tubes for protection.
I also have a bunch of loose taps that would benefit from improved storage.
Hopefully someone knows a supplier of these things.
Bob.

Not exactly what you are looking for, but if nothing else turns up.charles1930 | eBay
You'd need to ask him to make a listing with more end caps.*

Some blood collection tubes are big enough to put your tools in. I keep a few in them and can get them quite readily but that's because I work in a hospital. I know some pathology places throw them out from time to time, you could possibly try contacting a few.

I've got just what you want. I have a few of the square telescopic jobbies, and I can get more, but I also have quite a few tubes and caps that Colt drill bits come in. Too late now to fool around with a pic, but can do that tomorrow.
Cheers

You should be able to get florist water vials at any florist shop.....they are on the smaller side, i'll have to look in the right books tomorrow (whoops, later on today now...) for sizes. They are cheap but only have a rubber cap.
Like this: Water Vials are one of a Number of Floral Accessories that aim to Hydrate & Preserve Flowers we pay about $10 per 1001915 17"x50" LeBlond heavy duty Lathe, 24" Queen city shaper, 1970's G Vernier FV.3.TO Universal Mill, 1958 Blohm HFS 6 surface grinder, 1942 Rivett 715 Lathe, 14"x40" Antrac Lathe, Startrite H225 Bandsaw, 1949 Hercus Camelback Drill press, 1947 Holbrook C10 Lathe.

Not as cheap as some options already given but these might work too.
Pen Making :: Pen Boxes and Display :: Acrylic Pen Tubes - Pen Kits, Pen blanks, Clock Kits and wood turning accessories.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. The taps are pretty large so the pen tubes may be the way to go. Having a look on ebay the $1.50 is pretty reasonable if they don't gouge on shipping.

Another Option
When PET plastic bottles are manufactured they are made in two stages, first an injection moulded stage called a preform, the preform is then a blowmoulded into the finished product. Pictured is a preform, these are sometimes available from manufacturers and would suit tool storage as they can be sealed and are very solid. You would probably have to supply your own closures (caps) as these are usually made in a separate factory.
The preforms could be stored by placing in a hole in a shelf or rack or by holding around the neck area in an open slot.
Mm.

I don't know what they are called either but watched the tool crib attendant at work take a half barrel of them to the dumpster today. I don't know if sending them from here would be economical but if you can stand to wait a month or two when more accumulate I could send some to you. They are all sizes from a couple inches long to a foot long and 2+ inches in diameter mostly blue or red with some clear or translucent. I even have a couple I grabbed a couple years ago that I put wine bottles into when packing them in my luggage.

Tool bit storage tubes
Would this work. Get some clear plastic hose and cut it to length then get those caps that fit onto the legs of chairs, (you know the rubber thingys that stop the floor from getting scuffed) and see if they fit.

The water vials range from 80 x 12mm to 105 x 22, plus one larger one, not sure on the size, its not listed, so good for smaller stuff. I have plenty of the 95 x 15mm if anyone is interested, I might order some of the biger ones for myself next time the rep is here. If anyone wants some they are about 11-22c each (depending on size)plus post.

What about: Berocca Tubes - aluminium - most chemists
Benifex Tubes - plastic - Aldi stores
Berocca tube approximately - 125mm x 28mm I.D.
Benifex tube approximately - 140mm x 28mm I.D.
Plus both have a push in cap containing a sealed moisture absorbing chemical
Just a thought
