Nup, still dull.
The main motor is a delta wired ASEA. I was looking at an old thread of RC's regarding star/delta wound donks but nine wires in his motor had me lost. I'll keep looking. I'll pirate the TECO VFD I have on the Hercus mill if I can work out the motor rewinding, just to see the grinder running.

Bob its a star wired motor already. But 9 wires? I have a couple of 2 pole motors that are wired in double star, they have 9 wires out, 3 for each star point and 3 for the power in. But they are marked with 2 stars on the plate.

Hi BT,
You could always run it in star
Have you looked in the terminal box?
I think the nine wires you are talking about is in RC's motor?(thats why I asked if it was 2 speed)
There have been a couple of write ups on digging out the star point on a single speed motor.(I think Simon did one I'll go looking)

The 9 wires were in RC's motor.
I will pop the ASEA apart and have a look. The camera will be at hand for when I don't know what I'm looking at and I need you blokes to help me. The little motor on the work head might be trickier.
My optimistic plan is to bury two VFDs inside the grinder's base and utilise the existing switchgear.
BT
ps. the weeds are in focus but not the wires.

Bob
It only had the one internal wheel when I got the machine, but I picked up about a dozen at a tool sale I went to in Melbourne, they have a larger bore so I'll have to make some adapters when a need arises, the ones I got vary in size between about 3/4" and 1:1/4". I usually get abrasives from Thomas Warburtons so I'll ask about internal wheels next time I'm in there, they seem to have the best range and the abrasives guy there is very helpful.
Does your internal spindle have a 1/4" diameter spigot to mount the wheel on or is it just the 3/16" screw that locates it ?
I think you're about right with the late seventies vintage. The paper work with mine included some letter correspondence dated 1982 between Hercus and the guy I bought it off, and he wasn't the original owner.
I was going to post those pictures from the brochure in another thread on T+C grinders, someone was asking what operations the various attachments are used for, then this thread pops up so I thought I'd post it here instead. I find that brochure very useful for setups.
Glad to hear Peter's happy with his tool holder, always nice to hear about happy customers , nice lathe too.

Gary,
Yes, there is a 1/4" diameter spigot. The wheels I found on the site provided by Ewan have a 6mm / 1/4" counterbored recess. I will contact the seller to confirm the actual dimension.

Eclipse Laminated Magnetic blocks
Bob
A little while ago you were thinking of discarding your Eclipse Magnetic Blocks, & a few of us suggested you keep them.
Noticed your new set up has a magnetic table, so the Eclipse Blocks may turn out to be useful.
regards
Bruce
