Apparently there is a short B18 specification as well:
B18*17,431mm
0.6863"16,2mm
0.6378"25mm
0.9843"0.5909
A mate had a B18 arbor which mated reasonably well with the Rohm chuck that came off the Tough
And then there is the Tough spindle shorter than short specification taper length at only 23mm, so tried measuring mid length, and interpolating the B18 values, and taking into account the dimensional inaccuracies of the spindle taper induced over the years ( finger nail test), and that the large diameter at 23mm is roughly proportionate to a couple of mm short of the 25mm B18 ( left the measurements at the workshop today)... a B18 it is.
thanks Michael
Also got the retainer out today, a quick pin spanner knock up out of some bar and a couple of 4.5mm drill bits
The circlip at the other end has stepped ends, and is quite soft; easier than expected to get out

Tough progress
After some time away chasing trout in the French Pyrenees and Armagnac (which didn't have to be chased) I picked up the Tough parts that had been tanked, and then blasted as there was quite a bit of rust hiding under the old paint, then re-tanked.
Currently primered. Looking for appropriate 2K top coat (metallic pale green). Was initially thinking of a hammer tone, but plain metallic should have more colour options. Unfortunately Por15 do not have metallics (pale green). Wattyl did'nt have the shade and advised against mixing to get the colour; which was good given that the available came in 20L lots. So it will probably have to be automotive 2K
Still like the green on Anorak Bob's Tough.
The Spindle chuck taper was machined to fit the Albrecht.

Node, glad to see you're not rushing this. The colour on my floor model Tough I would have called hammerite gold, so I bought a rattle can of that but it looks far too ... gold. Too yellow I guess. In comparison the original looks a silvery gold, which doesn't look as weird as it sounds. Certainly not green (though Bob's does look nice). Most of my paint is ok, it's just the base that's a bit rusty, but I've decided to leave it alone.
I've got one of those hospital beds too. Once of my best scrounges ever.
