I was thinking exactly the same thing yesterday...I answered my self by asking...how or what, would or could you check it against..do they make a cylindrical type master?
it was too hard so I just gave into the fact that it would most likely be easier to just turn it in a lathe ....
the experts will let us know bryan

Well in the case of RC's example above, you would use the spindle nose as a master.

Nick did a video of scraping the conical bronze spindle bearing on a myford cylindrical grinder, plenty of good tips in this video, and like all Nick's video's very well done.
I get a bit lost with determining circularity and exactly how to go about measuring it... I seem to remember GQ has some fancy metrology gear for measuring cylindricity, but that would that work in inside bearing?
