    Default Treadmill Motors.

    Good morning Gents,had a visit from the fairies last week.On my doorstep were 2 tread mill motors,one 2.5 hp 240v 4000 rpm,the other 1hp 180v 4000 rpm.
Some one thought i might be able to use the 2 cast flywheels off them. the3 wires on both nicely cropped 3 inches from motor and minus brushes and caps.
the 180v seems to be permanent magnet as it has resistance when slowly turned by hand.
Have just read through Ewan's conversion and was hoping to copy it.
My quest now is to find suitable brushes found some ebay 60 dollars but on checking most of the el cheapo power tools have similar brushes and usually have a spare set in the box with the appliance. they fit but checking the cap thread none seem to fit from the far eastern power tools here. I measure them at approx 22mmX1.0 or 0.75mm. any clues at sourcing caps be appreciated as making them no big deal but thought the time doing that could be better spent. Thanks in advance for a heads up on these. John.

A possible source would be a power tool repair place, they may have spares.

    Hi John,
You can have the brushes from my dead 1.5 hp, you may get lucky.
When you say caps, which do you mean?
Just don't brake the things too hard, i think thats why mine died.

    Cheers,

Thanks Ewan it is the plastic caps that have screw driver slot that hold brush assy in position. I measured it a appr 22 mm o/d fine pitch.I read through your thread on controllers that is where i want to go with this motor . want to use the 2.5 on vert attachment on small mill.Joe H has seen it and urged me to do a blow by blow rebuild.
The mars is all undressed now and will do a photo shoot of its resurrection its original livery was indian red under the yukky hammertone trailer blue.Rather than go to mars thread the 30 tooth gear on the cone pulley is missing 2 teeth cleaned up looking in it appears that the gear will push off as it has a gap inboard of the gear against cone pulley.need to get gear off to do a dental implant as it butts to cone pulley shoulder Cheers and Thanks John.ps very impressed how well these lathes are built.

    Hi John,
I checked mine just now, the brushes are 17x7mm, caps are 22x1mm. I'll put it all in with your ratchet anyway, it will be in the post tomorrow morning.
